Dutch-Puerto Rican Emmy nominated investigative journalist and filmmaker making creative documentaries inspired by underreported stories behind today’s headlines. Her latest feature documentary The Border Crossed Us, which delves in to the stories of border police officers on the US-Mexico border, recently premiered at IDFA 2023. Her debut feature documentary Behind the Blood, a film about surviving gang and police violence in her birth country Honduras, premiered at IDFA 2019 and won the award for best International Documentary at the HUMAN film festival Oslo 2020. Currently she is also co-directing a feature documentary about those who take Big Oil companies to court in their fight against climate change.

After completing an M.A. at NYU's Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute in 2012 she started reporting about human rights and social issues including the drug industry in the favela’s of Rio, animal trafficking in the Amazon jungle and forensic investigations into disappearances on the US-Mexico border. Other credits include the experimental short film 'Sound of Vision' (PBS POV, 2013, Emmy nominated), the investigative film 'Huesos que Hablan' (Discovery Channel, 2014, Emmy nominated), and a film about a Northern Irish dissident accused during Brexit 'Unfinished Revolution' (HUMAN, 2019). Loretta holds an M.A. in conflict studies and human rights from the University of Utrecht.
